Is it true kayakers have more fun?!? You can find out at the Waukeela boathouse where campers learn how to paddle these lightweight boats which even our smallest girls can control by themselves.
Campers first learn to balance and steer with a two-sided paddle in a funyak, which has an open-cockpit. Instruction then proceeds to lessons in how to use a spray skirt and do wet exits from a normal kayak. Once girls have mastered these skills, they begin to work on their strokes and steering with various games on Crystal Lake. When they have demonstrated the capacity to steer slalom courses and deal with the wind, they will proceed to day trips on flat water rivers. Our most advanced campers can even take on the challenge of whitewater!!
