Annie's Song

An Acrostic Poem by 11 year old Annie Prusky

When will it come, to hold me
And make me warm? When will it be time? The time for old,
Used trunks and dark green jackets that
Keep promises of happy summers tucked into their sleeves?
Each time it starts to get cold,
Each time it snows and the days are
Loud with wind and sleet, I tell myself to think of warm
And sunny days. It

Makes it just a little bit easier to sit
And wait through winter, if I
Keep happy thoughts in my head.
Even if I am happy when I sled and enjoy no
School, still I think of times to come.

Mean and vicious would be the parent that
Even thinks of not allowing me to go. And hopefully I think

Happy thoughts and count down the days until it’s time.
And when it seems as if would never end, and I
Ponder if it ever will,
Peach trees blossom and flowers spring up, and me and
You and every Waukeela girl gets to pack!
