Skill building at camp: How 21st century skills grow here this summer at Waukeel

Posted by on July 18, 2017

We’ve heard it all before – technology and the lack of 21st century skills in modern school curriculum is making it increasingly difficult for kids to develop into well-rounded members of society. That’s where Waukeela comes in — whether they know it or not, our girls are developing 21st century skills everyday while at camp!

Creativity and Innovation

Every activity at Waukeela opens a door for your daughter to explore, envision and create in her own unique way! Whether it’s digital photography, cooking or drama class, Waukeela girls are able to push themselves out of their comfort zones and find their own confidence.

Through our unique evening programs and special events, our campers innovate, work as a team and create something new almost every day. At Waukeela our campers have the opportunity to experience failure and success in a safe environment. In an environment where we don’t keep score for each failure, but a place where our campers can try and try again. The growth experience at Waukeela is one of a kind! Our campers return home more confident in their abilities and take these new-found successes with them into their everyday lives.

Community and Sisterhood

Community and sisterhood are at our core. We believe in building lifelong friendships, encouraging each other, providing our campers with strong role models and having a community where everyone contributes their best self. It’s in this environment that girls can learn communication, adaptability and what it means to be a strong, independent female!

The Waukeela sisterhood means everything to our campers, parents, staff and alumnae. Our culture is centered around building lifelong friendships, encouraging each other, providing our campers with strong role models and having a community where everyone contributes their best self.

Critical Thinking

Whether they’re dancing in the dining hall or trying to navigate the ropes course, Waukeela offers an opportunity for girls to be exposed to a community of different backgrounds.  We believe this exposure helps each girl consider and respect other perspectives. In addition, the countless activities at Waukeela allow girls to try new things and push themselves and others in ways they didn’t think they were capable.

Additionally, by living in a cabin environment our girls are able to put their problem solving skills to the test almost daily. Working together as a team to solve issues both big and small are a hallmark of a summer at Waukeela.

The program we offer at Waukeela helps us build a unique environment of leadership and success for girls in their future educations, careers and aspirations. We think you’ll be surprised by the difference you see after your daughter spends a summer at Waukeela. It’s only been three weeks and we can already see a difference!
